Flags-32 points in all

5 flagged ingredients.

Avoid first. Each flag costs points in the score above; where a flag has an entry behind it, it links to the evidence.

Avoid-16

BHA (preservative)

A preservative flagged as a possible carcinogen in animal studies; many brands have dropped it.

Caution-4

Added sugar

A sweetener with no nutritional job; it adds calories and nothing else.

Caution-4

Natural flavor

An undisclosed blend. Not harmful per se, but it hides what your pet is actually tasting.

Caution-4

Smoke flavor

A flavoring made from condensed wood smoke. In 2023 EFSA found genotoxic substances in most of the eight smoke flavorings on the EU market, and the EU has since withdrawn all eight; the label doesn't say which flavoring this is.

Caution-4

Artificial colors

Purely cosmetic. Your pet doesn't care what color the food is; dyes add risk with zero benefit.

Independent testing & contaminants

No independent testing on file.

Third-party lab findings for things that never appear on an ingredient label. This is separate from the score above and does not change it.

We haven't found published third-party lab results (PFAS, heavy metals, phthalates) for this product. That is not a clean bill of health, just an absence of data.

  • Oct 24, 2026 Panel Score 60 → 56: added a caution for Smoke flavor, and “BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole)” is now “BHA (preservative)”. The panel lists “Natural smoke flavor”. In 2023 the European Food Safety Authority found genotoxic substances in most of the eight smoke flavorings on the EU market, and the EU has since withdrawn all eight, so since October 24, 2026 a smoke flavor reads as a caution of its own. We used to read it as a neutral flavoring. The BHA flag takes the name our library gives it; the panel lists BHA and no BHT.
  • Sep 22, 2026 “Corn syrup” is now “Added sugar”. The score did not change. The panel lists sugar, not corn syrup.
  • Sep 21, 2026 Panel Score 84 → 60: added flags for BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole), Corn syrup and Natural flavor. The printed panel lists it and our record was not carrying the flag.
