The panel lists “Cane molasses”, an added sugar, and “Garlic powder”, and the record was carrying neither flag. Its natural flavor caution rested only on “Natural smoke flavor”. Smoke flavor now reads as a caution of its own, not as a natural flavor: in 2023 the European Food Safety Authority found genotoxic substances in most of the eight smoke flavorings on the EU market, and the EU has since withdrawn all eight.
