Save it to your pantry and the pantry page flags it if it turns up in an FDA recall we import.
Why there is no score.
This panel was written from a search summary, and we have not checked it against the package yet. A summary tends to leave out the preservatives and colors that carry flags, so a number would most likely be too high. Holding the package? Send us the back of it and we will read it properly.
How we decide2 flagged ingredients.
Avoid first. Where a flag has an entry behind it, it links to the evidence.
Clay litter dust
Clay litter dust is a chronic airway irritant, and cats sit right in the cloud.
Undisclosed material
The label names a job, not an ingredient, so there is nothing to look up; the flag is about the missing name, not a known hazard.
Every ingredient, top to bottom.

No FDA recalls on fileNone of the FDA recall notices we have imported names Fresh Step.
The brand behind it.
Fresh Step
Clorox's clay litter line; activated charcoal plus paw-activated Febreze fragrance.
Names clay and charcoal but keeps its "technology" proprietary and adds Febreze fragrance.
Fresh Step brand pageIndependent testing & contaminants
No independent testing on file.
Third-party lab findings for things that never appear on an ingredient label. This is separate from the score above and does not change it.
We haven't found published third-party lab results (PFAS, heavy metals, phthalates) for this product. That is not a clean bill of health, just an absence of data.
What we look forThis page was corrected once.
- Oct 24, 2026 “Crystalline silica dust” is now “Clay litter dust”, and added a caution for Undisclosed material. The page still shows Not enough data. Our library names the clay caution “Clay litter dust”. The panel also lists “Odor-eliminating minerals” without naming them. In a litter we flag clay, which is a mineral, so a mineral the label doesn't name could be one we flag. The caution is about the missing name, not a known hazard.
Holding the package and it reads differently? Disputes come straight to us, and any score we change is logged publicly on the corrections page.
