Watched ingredients get highlighted on every product panel you open. Watching this one also flags fish (species not named), fish meal, and fish oil, which come from the same source.
- Where it comes from
- Commercial fisheries and aquaculture. Meals are typically made near the catch point to limit spoilage.
- Why it's in the product
- Protein plus long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), which have real evidence behind them for skin, joints, and cognition.
- Safety and toxicity
- Safe. Two real caveats: fish accumulate heavy metals like mercury, with larger predatory species accumulating more, and fish meal is prone to oxidation, so it has to be preserved. When the preservative is ethoxyquin, we flag that line.
- Interactions and who should be careful
- High omega-3 intake can mildly extend bleeding time, which is worth mentioning to your vet before surgery if your pet is also on a fish oil supplement.
