Flags-12 points in all

3 flagged ingredients.

Avoid first. Each flag costs points in the score above; where a flag has an entry behind it, it links to the evidence.

Caution-4

Meat and bone meal

An unnamed-mammal protein with high bone content; the least transparent protein you can buy.

Caution-4

Meat flavor and digest

A rendered palatant from animal tissue; the vaguer the name, the less you know.

Caution-4

Artificial colors

Dyes that exist to sell the food to you; your pet does not care what color it is.

Purina's value cat line built on corn, unnamed meat and bone meal, and added synthetic colors.

Relies on ingredients that don't name their source species. Publishes testing or sourcing information. The C grade takes 5 points off this product's score.

Independent testing & contaminants

No independent testing on file.

Third-party lab findings for things that never appear on an ingredient label. This is separate from the score above and does not change it.

We haven't found published third-party lab results (PFAS, heavy metals, phthalates) for this product. That is not a clean bill of health, just an absence of data.

  • Oct 24, 2026 Panel Score 83 → 79: “Unnamed animal ingredients” is now “Meat and bone meal”, “Added colors” is now “Artificial colors”, and added a caution for Meat flavor and digest. “Unnamed animal ingredients” was a flag of our own for lines that don't say which animal they come from. We retired it on October 24, 2026 for the entries our library has for those lines, each counted once: “Meat and bone meal” is Meat and bone meal, and the ocean fish meal names no species but our library flags no fish meal. The panel also lists “Liver flavor”, which the record was not carrying. Its color line names Red 40, Yellow 5 and Blue 2, certified dyes, so the color flag takes the name our library gives them.
