Why it's in the product: Makes the product smell like something to the human buying it.
Safety and toxicity: Some fragrance compounds are documented contact allergens, and dogs' noses are orders of magnitude more sensitive than ours. The specific risk is unknowable by design, because the blend is not disclosed.
Interactions and who should be careful: For shampoos and litters, unscented or fragrance-free formulas remove the variable completely.
