- Oct 24, 2026 “Crystalline silica dust” is now “Diatomaceous earth”. The score did not change. The caution rests on the diatomaceous earth in the powder's base. That is fossilized algae shells, mostly amorphous silica (National Pesticide Information Center), not clay and not crystalline silica, so it now has an entry of its own. Its dust can irritate the nose and airways, which is what the caution is about.
