It adds up, line by line.
Every product starts at 96. Flags, the brand's transparency grade and any recall linked to this product take points away. Nothing else moves the number, and no brand can pay to move it.

1 flagged ingredient.
Avoid first. Each flag costs points in the score above; where a flag has an entry behind it, it links to the evidence.
Synthetic fabric
Synthetic fibers shed microplastics, and a pet lies on this fabric and many lick or chew it; what that means for a pet's health is still an open question, and cotton, hemp, linen and wool avoid it.

The brand behind it.
L.L.Bean
Outdoor clothing and home goods, with dog beds and blankets. Graded from the 3 products of theirs in this catalogue, not from an audit of the company.
Each of its 3 pages names every fiber, with its share, in a Fabric & Care field, and names the foam insert and the blanket's waterproof coating as polyurethane. The A grade takes nothing off this product's score.

No independent testing on file.
Third-party lab findings for things that never appear on an ingredient label. This is separate from the score above and does not change it.
We haven't found published third-party lab results (PFAS, heavy metals, phthalates) for this product. That is not a clean bill of health, just an absence of data.

- Oct 26, 2026 Panel Score 96 → 92: added a caution for Synthetic fabric. The panel lists sherpa fleece of 70% polyester and 30% acrylic, and twill of 57% cotton and 43% recycled polyester. Since October 26, 2026 a synthetic fiber in the cover of a bed or in a blanket, the fabric a pet lies on, kneads, licks or chews, reads as a caution of its own, Synthetic fabric: synthetic fibers shed microplastics, and what that means for a pet’s health is still an open question. The polyester fill inside isn’t counted.
